About This Project

Replacing eighteen damaged and/or illegible headstones of African American Civil War veterans from various regiments, 2015-2018. Each headstone application required careful and thorough research on the soldiers, from various regions of Tidewater, Virginia, and the Piedmont and Coastal Plain regions of North Carolina. Prevented from replacing others, we moved on to historic Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, and replaced three headstones.
